Is my donation tax-deductible?
Whether your donation is tax-deductible depends on a few factors:
Organization status: Donations to organizations that are recognized by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service as 501(c)(3) public charities are generally tax-deductible for federal income tax purposes. Aziza Safe Haven Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Type of gift: Cash gifts, checks, and most noncash donations (clothing, household goods, publicly traded securities) are typically deductible. Special rules apply to vehicle donations, real estate, and complex gifts—these often require additional documentation, appraisal, or Form 8283.
Documentation: For any donation, keep records.
For cash donations under $250: a bank record (cancelled check, credit card statement) or a written communication from the charity indicating the amount and date is sufficient.
For cash donations $250 or more: you must have a contemporaneous written acknowledgment from the charity stating the amount, whether you received any goods or services in return, and a description and good-faith estimate of the value of any goods or services received.
For noncash donations: keep receipts describing the items and their condition. Donations over $500 may require filing Form 8283 with your tax return; donations over $5,000 generally require a qualified appraisal
